Background
Codelab is a student-run organization at UC Davis that works on unpaid, educational projects with real world clients. In March 2025, our team began a project for Chevron.
Disclaimer: While we collaborated with representatives from Chevron, this work was conducted in an educational, unpaid capacity and does not represent an official product or endorsement by Chevron.
Project Goal
Our goal was to create a web scraping tool for the Renewable Energy Group at Chevron to help them find data about various company's efforts towards adopting sustainable energy.
Results
We successfully created a tool that gathers and reports sustainability data, resulting in users being able to find data 7x faster and with 95% accuracy.
Problem
Currently, Chevron gathers sustainability data by manually searching for each company's annual sustainability report and reading through it. This process takes hours on end and makes it difficult to organize and keep track of data.
Solution
With our tool, a user can search for a specific company in our web application, the data is collected automatically with web scraping, and visualized with AI generated summaries.
User Flow

Wireframes
We created many wireframes to view various ways of displaying company data. We aimed to find a way to visualize a large amount of data in a way that easily readable and met our client's need.
